Planning a party? Provisions is here to help! The first thing you'll need to figure out is how much stuff you'll need. A safe bet is that most people drink 2 drinks in the first hour, then about a drink per hour, tapering off to more like 1 every 2 hours if it's a long party (5-6+ hours).
To determine the mix you need, just keep in mind that each choice you offer means that you need to build in overkill in case everyone wants that particular choice. If you think you have an even split between wine and beer, buy enough wine for 60% of the crowd and enough beer for 60% of the crowd. This gives you 20% excess and a margin of safety. But if you offer both red and white wines, you'll want enough red for 35% of the crowd, and enough white for the same. So the additional choice brings you up to enough drinks for 130% of the actual total you'll need. Two reds and two whites? More overkill needed! Simplify... :)
